the lovely thing is: the wealthiest counties voted for Obama. Schadenfreude, yahhh....

My county is #1 on the list, went 60% for Obama. However, we have the 4th, 7th, 8th and 11th largest cities in NY state in this county. All of these are machine Democrat, declining, post-industrial, union-run, unlovely cities. Politically these are classic Democrat strongholds, although the wealth here is a holdover from bygone area in combination with proximity to NYC. Although we have our share of limousine liberals, the Obama vote here is mostly ghetto dwellers, union goons and Jews.
I just had an interchange with my niece, who is married to an American Jew, and who lives in Oakland, right by Berkeley, and who is a lawyer and he is a writer/fireman, and his parents are psychiatrist/women's studies university types.
Take your word, "declining." And think about how much respect we all have for the intelligence of Jewish Americans (like, how could they vote like they do)... well.. think about the great Jews: they flourished in the 19th century (mostly in the Austrian Hungarian Empire), and in the first part of the 20th century.
But credentials and university types do not make a vibrant intellectual life. As I pointed out to my niece (who doesn't see why I'm so upset about her voting for an anti semite and the future of Israel), the Jewish Americans (not the Israelis) are lying around on the reputation and work of their ancestors.
