This is property of a US corporation, not US property per se. Also, Brazil awarded this property right to Merck so Brazil can take it away if they want (without knowing how Brazilian patent law works).
It still sucks. Innovator drug firms have no reason to enter the Brazilian market. See also my post below regarding science, innovationn, and wealth building.
